Cohesion
Our cohesion work was created by our youth board and junior trustees who told us they needed opportunities to reach beyond their own echo chambers and build understanding with peers who may fear or mistrust them.
The rise in xenophobia across the UK, the 2024 racist riots and the surge in divisive rhetoric in Bristol and the UK have widened tensions, especially in areas where demographics are rapidly changing. We work with schools and community groups to open up honest, youth‑led discussions about identity, belonging and the impact of racist narratives.
Young people draw on their own experiences to explore issues like racism, online harm, extremism and community tensions in ways that feel real to them. Young people asked us for support to challenge misinformation, disinformation and malinformation that targets minoritised communities and fuels hate. Each project is shaped by the young people taking part. They create films, design campaigns and lead events aimed at building understanding between groups who rarely meet or speak.
Through this, they grow in confidence, develop leadership skills and take ownership of the change they want to see. Our cohesion work supports young people to counter division, challenge harmful narratives and strengthen connection in their communities.
