About This Project
This bright, cheeky and extremely catchy song is about FGM types 1 and 4. Many people describe these forms of the practice as ‘milder’; some have even suggested legalising type 4 in order to dissuade people from subjecting girls to type 3 (infibulation). The point is this, whichever type is performed, the reasoning comes from the same place: a girl’s sexuality needs to be controlled, the honour of the family is reliant on the girl’s virginity.
In making this video, our young people wanted to make a very clear statement: “We want the CPS to prosecute type 4 in the same way they’d prosecute type 3. Nobody has the right to claim ownership of any part of a girl’s body.”
